E-dìde Parliament:
E-dide ilé asòfin:
The Parliament aims to maximize the involvement of people within their respective communities by deliberating on issues that affect them locally at the grassroots. This is set up to ensure that topical development issues affecting communities are brought to the fore and discussed to direct the attention to such matters affecting the community and to ensure that individuals are empowered to influence development at the grassroots community level, as well as taking a more active role in their communities.
A forum is a safe place where people can build confidence, talk about what is important to them and share their views in a way that is meaningful to them.
Our belief for the need for this forum is that community development at the neighborhood level is typically guided by grassroots leaders from a particular community or neighborhood. These leaders are usually people who are change agents and have a passion for implementing changes in their community. Typically, these grassroots community leaders are not waiting for local government officials to make changes in their communities. Grassroots community leaders initiate the change process in their community by organizing and meeting with community members to begin the needs assessment, vision development, and strategic planning process.
e-dìde parliament leaders are not opposed to collaborating with local government officials, while local government officials are open to collaborating with grassroots community leaders in the revitalization or redevelopment of their communities. The parliament will work with local government staff at the beginning of the community visioning and planning process to ensure that the vision or plan is consistent with the plan of the local government authority for that community.
Why this will be a good fit is that the best practice in today’s world is to involve grassroots community leaders and stakeholders in the planning and programming decisions for their community. It is important that municipalities be very intentional regarding seeking the opinions and recommendations of grassroots community leaders and their community members in the planning and development process. In return, it is also important that grassroots community leaders and members attend community meetings and public hearings to provide their input on development plans regarding development projects in their community.
